El Torito is Los Matadores' golden bull in WWE
By Scott Fishman
When I saw the vignettes for Los Matadores I will admit I thought they were cheesy and made me think of Puss in Boots.
I wasn't sure if this new tag team was going to last or join the Ding Dongs in tag team purgatory. Those fears continued the first few outings for the masked duo, but have since grown on me.
A big reason for that is the entertaining manager, mascot or whatever you want to call him who comes ringside during their matches. El Torito really makes the team stand out.
He not only just stands there cheering, but even gets involved. Torito is exciting and fun to watch, as he has executed classic lucha moves on many WWE superstars already. The Los Matadores have even done a triple team move using him. I think by him by their side they have a good shot at the tag team championship, which is ultra-competitive these days.
It's not hard to see why broadcaster Renee Young is so smitten with the masked bull.
That said, the roster shouldn't take Torito lightly. He is no rookie, with more than a decade in the business working for the top promotions in Mexico such as CMLL and AAA. These companies have given us some of the top stars in the business including Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio. Chris Jericho also gained a following early on in his career south of the border.
Like many in Mexico, Torito started wrestling when he was in his teens. He quickly turned heads, following in the footsteps of Mascarita Sagrada, who has worked for WWE during his lengthy career. Torito's work was recognized by the company as well, and he received a contract as a result.
It has been a while since midget wrestling has truly been a part of WWE television. There was a time where names such as Lord Littlebrook and the Haiti Kid were part of big events such as WrestleMania. Torito could help bring this division back to the forefront.
Maybe we will see Hornswoggle versus Torito down the line or in a tag team. Hornswoggle has proven he can be a formidable partner for many of the top WWE superstars today.
I feel like Torito is just getting started and am looking forward to seeing how his tenure in WWE takes shape. Much of the WWE Universe has already fallen in love with him. His popularity is only going to grow each week, and that's no bull. Olé!
