JBL on JR, Mick Foley, the Redskins name and much more
Author: John Layfield
Very excited this week as my wife’s new book is coming out-Fate of the States by Meredith Whitney. Meredith writes about the growing difference in states as far as surpluses and deficits-and uses a historical context to show the trends. It’s really interesting to see where future wealth and opportunity is being created in the US. You can order the book here http://www.amazon.com/Fate-States-Geography-American-Prosperity/dp/159184570X
The JBL and Cole Show has been a blast to be on, this past week we went bobsledding with the WWE divas and the world’s greatest bobsledded (you will have to tune in to see who it is). All available at www.layfieldReport.com We were at Calgary Olympic park, it was Team JBL vs Team Cole.
LeBron has had a pressure problem up till this year, but that problem seems to have disappeared-he’s playing incredible basketball in this series with the Pacers but he just isn’t getting much help. I think the Heat win game 7, but you never know-should be a great game.
If the Heat lose, this could be the downfall of the dream team.
Got an email from Jim Ross about his tour of the UK-after I had email JR to ask for info, I think the shows are a unique idea and will be a fun evening for those who go, I would recommend buying tickets-especially if you are a wrestling fan, I think you will love it whether you are a fan or not though, will be some great stories. Buy tickets here http://www.psievents.eventbrite.com/
Mick Foley had a sold out comedy show in NYC, really happy for Mick. Also, happy for Jennifer Bloodsworth, former WWE creative writer, who was also working the show-tough doing stand up comedy, I admire both for living out their dream.
I’m a huge NFL fan, eventhough my Cowboys have caused me more grief than happiness this century. I love the rivalry with Washington-but what is the problem with changing the name "Redskins”, it is a derogatory term and no team would now be allowed to use it. It’s not like ‘Braves’ or Warriors’, it’s a slur-and my opinion is they need to change it.
Changing the name is the right thing to do in my opinion-it doesn’t change the team or their terrific history as one of NFL’s great clubs.
I get asked all the time about returning for one more match-I appreciate the interest but I have no interest in that happening. I am very happy doing commentary and carrying Michael Cole.
Speaking of Michael, we are both in a weight loss challenge and Michael is pretty close to his goal and I have four weeks to reach the twenty pound weight loss goal. We both, with Frenchy (our WWE audio friend), are going to be climbing a 14er (14,000 foot mountain) in California right before Summerslam.
Michael has been training very hard for the climb, hiking and wearing a backpack-he should be fine. Frenchy lives in California and has been ‘cheating’ by climbing every week.
A lot of fans are surprised at Michael on our radio show (also at www.LayfieldReport.com) how much he knows about current events-Michael was a reporter for years before he came to WWE, the radio show has been a pure pleasure with him and is doing great download numbers-many thanks to all who download.
Had a huge event over the weekend with the London Saracens coming to Bermuda, our program Beyond Rugby along with the BRFU get the proceeds from the event. With the proceeds that we get from it, we are taking our kids to NYC this week to compete in the NYC Rugby Cup with Play Rugby USA and have our first annual championship of Bermuda vs NYC on Thursday night at Randall’s Island.
What would you think about a WWE Karaoke contest for the JBL and Cole show? An idea we have been thinking about.
Travel problems as usual this week, going to get into Hartford-but will be late on Sunday before I do. Excited about the CM Punk matchup with Chris Jericho and also the Cena/Ryback match at the PPV coming up in Chicago.
WWE has created a lot of new talents this past year, so good to see. I think Antonio Cesaro is going to be a huge star, just needs a little refining on the character-not sure what it is yet, but I’m one of his biggest fans-I really think he has makes it.
And, happy to see Renee Young doing so well-I can’t remember when we last had a woman interviewer backstage and a woman commentator-but I think she brings a great look and feel to the programming, a great addition.
