January 18th 2013 -
In an interview taped on Monday and aired Thursday night, Lance Armstrong admitted to taking performance enhancing drugs to Oprah Winfrey. The news came on the heels of the International Olympic Committee stripping Armstrong of his bronze medal won at the Olympics in 2000, early Thursday morning. This announcement coming as a surprise only to those who have been residing beneath the mineral aggregate of granite (that is, living under a rock). The news broke back in October 2012 that the International Cycling Union had stripped Armstrong of his 7 Tour de France wins following allegations and an investigation made by the US Anti-doping Agency. Of course this is the first time Armstrong has admitted to doping in public. He even stated "I'm a flawed character." In the course of the interview, Armstrong admitted to being somewhat of a bully at times and ultimately did not view it as cheating. "I went and looked up the definition of cheat," he said. "And the definition is to gain advantage on a rival or foe. I didn't view it that way. I viewed it as a level playing field. A survivor of cancer himself, Armstrong is the founder of the Livestrong Foundation, an organization that works to help people affected by cancer.
